Groundwork is seeking highly motivated candidates for ‘Youth Leader’ positions with the Green Team workforce development program. The Green Team program employs youth
14-18 years old to complete community-based environmental initiatives while training
the youth in soft skills, environmental science, outdoor recreation, and environmental
careers. The primary role of the Youth Leader is to lead and coordinate day-to-day
operations of the Green Team.
Requirements
● Highly motivated, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
● Ability to set and execute work goals in an unstructured environment
● Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings
● Ability to work outside in all season or in an office setting periodically
● Active Driver’s License
Desired Abilities/Skills
● Natural Resource Management/Restoration experience: trail building, invasive
species management, tree planting, naturalist skills, construction skills.
● Drivers License
● Community development/engagement work or shared life experience with youth
employees
● Experience with curriculum building and planning
● Comfortable leading and teaching environmental lesson plans
Benefits/Schedule
● Program runs: 3 days per week, varied days Monday – Friday, Time varies between 2pm – 6pm (based on location)
● 16 – 20 hrs/week in the afternoon and evenings
● Occasional work on weekends or special events
● $15-17/hr
● Networking with local and national entities focused on Environmental and Social
Justice
Responsibilities:
● Jobsite readiness of the Green Team.
○ including ensuring the team has all tools and equipment for the project
● Establishing and enforcing both jobsite safety protocols and covid safety
protocols
○ ensuring that Green Team employees are equipped with and properly
using all necessary PPE to work safely.
● Training Green Team youth jobsite safety protocols, soft skills, and how to use
power and hand tools.
● Teaching youth how the work they are doing contributes to a healthier community
and ecosystem.
● Work with the Program Manager and Coordinator to schedule and supervise all
projects.
● Active communication with office staff
● Supervising the jobsite and monitoring project progress.
● Ensuring that youth are completing timesheets, organizing timesheets, and
submitting youth hours biweekly.
