SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager, performs professional landscape architectural work as Landscape Drafter in the design and preparation of plans, and specifications carried across all phases of the project: concept phase, schematic, design development, construction documents for the development of landscape architectural projects; designs and redesigns facilities and landscaped areas.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this job category. Employees may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
1. Prepares landscape designs and construction plans using AutoCAD.
2. Implements the firm’s standards as well as the firm’s plan documents.
3. Renders colored graphics using Photoshop software with direct supervision.
4. Supports multiple projects based on submittal deadlines with direct supervision.
5. Communicates project status and progress to the Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager. Seeks advice on related to AutoCAD and design or plan issues.
6. Prepares graphic exhibits as required to communicate design ideas with direct supervision.
7. Performs internal plan checks and plan reviews prior to client/city submittals to maintain the firm’s high-quality standards.
8. May research city landscape codes as needed.
9. Demonstrates good oral and graphic communication skills.
10. Performs related duties and assists fellow colleagues as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of:
Landscape architectural design, construction, and engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of the use and adaptability requirements of both native California and cultivated plants, shrubs, and trees in different landscaping situations.
Creative design and planning skills. Up-to-date knowledge of sustainable building techniques.
Methods, materials and techniques in the construction, maintenance and repair of landscaped areas
and sprinkler systems.
Ability to calculate angular, linear and area measurements.
Ability to compute volumes and quantities.
Modern and complex principles of plan checking.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Computer systems software (i.e. Computer Aided Design and Adobe graphic software, SketchUp) and word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to:
Meet and exceed client directions and expectations.
Meet deadlines, and work with various levels of staff.
Generate strong graphics (digital and hand).
Analyze and compile technical and statistical information.
Interpret plans, drawings, blueprints and specifications.
Evaluate and analyze the components of a project and determine what regulations are affected.
Interpret and incorporate City regulations into plans.
Supervise, organize and review the work of staff.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Respond to questions from clients.
Speak in public and make effective presentations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Make good judgments in decision-making.
Education and Experience Guidelines – Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in landscape architecture or closely related field.
Proficient in the current version AutoCAD.
Proficient in Photoshop.
Knowledge of 3D modeling software.
Experience:
Experience using AutoCAD for completing Landscape Architectural Plans desirable.
Internship or experience working at a Landscape Architecture office desirable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
