Join the Urban Ventures Internship Program as a Farm Intern and gain valuable skills while creating tangible change in your community in a paid role.
Responsibilities:
- Farm Work, Plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables at our 5-acre farm in Lakeville (transportation provided)
- Youth Work (5 hours per week). Facilitate garden-based field trips for K-8 grade students and events for families at our 1-acre garden in Minneapolis
- Farm Stand (4 hours per week). Takes place across the street from the garden in Minneapolis
- Work with staff team to set up the farm-stand, displaying and packaging produce
- Welcome and assist guests in shopping (multilingual skills are helpful)
- Monthly staff training, usually a field trip to tour another non-profit or farm
- Intern project (1 hour per week). Each intern will develop and carry out an idea to improve our program. Projects should relate to the intern’s field of study or career interests
Education and Experience:
- In process of achieving or has completed a bachelor’s degree
- Experience or willingness to work with youth
Requirements:
- Interest in and enjoyment of gardening and outdoor work
- Ability to arrive at work shifts on time and prepared
- Flexible attitude toward the wide variety of tasks intern is asked to participate in
- Ability to follow directions, ask for clarification, and execute tasks efficiently
- Ability to interact positively with the public during farm stand
- Able to stand for long periods, lift boxes, and be exposed to heat and sun
Pay
