Health Center Open On-Campus
Your current SOWELA ID is required to be seen. The health center is located in the Charleston Building, Lake Charles campus and is accessible by the outside entrance facing Sen. J. Bennett Johnson Avenue. The health center is open 7:30 am-4:30 pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 7:30 am-6:30 pm, Tuesday, and 7:30-1:30 pm, Friday. It is staffed by a nurse practitioner.

- Preventive Screenings (i.e. BMI, Depression, Tobacco, etc.)
- STD/HIV Screenings
- Annual Wellness Visits
- Physical Exams
- Chronic Disease Management
- Assessment of Acute Illness (i.e. Flu, UTI, Common Cold, Upper Respiratory)
Women’s Health
- Pap Smears
- STD/HIV Screenings
- Breast Exams

- COVID-19 testing and Vaccines (as of November 1)
- Urine pregnancy Test (UPT)
- Urine Analysis (UA)
- Drug Screen
- Blood Glucose
- Hemoglobin A1C
- Rapid Flu
- Rapid Strep

Insurance and Sliding Fee Discount Program
The health center accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and all commercial insurance. There is also a sliding fee discount program that allows individuals who are uninsured or underinsured whose income is at or below 200% Federal Poverty Guidelines to receive a significant discount for health care services provided at SWLA Center for Health Services. Members of the Sliding Fee Discount Program may receive health care services at a cost as low as $25 per service depending on their income level.
Complete an application during the registration process and provide the following documentation:
- Photo identification
- Verification of number of household members
- Proof of their income (Federal Tax Return or W-2, Social Security, Disability, Supplemental Security Income, or Pension Benefit Statements, Statement of No Income, etc.)
