Apollo Veterans Talent Network puts veterans to work

Transitioning from a military career to a civilian career can be challenging. Often, it’s not a matter of talent, but a matter of translation. For veterans, being able to explain the skills and experience he or she has into civilian terms is critical. For hiring managers, understanding how those skills and their experience can benefit all companies is even more critical.

Scott Avery is a retired US Army colonel who served in an armored battalion as a medical platoon leader, was a medivac pilot, and eventually ran military hospitals through the U.S. and the Pacific.

Even with all that experience, after leaving the military, he had trouble finding work, submitting hundreds of resumes across the country. He kept hitting the same roadblock, hiring managers who didn’t think his military skills and experience qualified him for work in a civilian job.

Today he is the COO for Paris Regional Medical Center, owned by LifePoint Health®, and part of a group of business leaders using the Apollo Veterans Talent Network—created by Apollo Global Management Inc.—to help veterans connect to good jobs in healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and other fields.
